What "get matched" actually means
Requesting a match is not a purchase, a signed agreement, or a commitment to hire anyone. It is a single, straightforward step: you tell us the basics of your ADU project and where in California your property is located, and we route that information to a licensed contractor in our vetted network who actually serves your area and works on the type of project you are describing.
From there, the relationship is between you and the contractor. You are free to ask for a second match, compare bids from multiple contractors, or decide an ADU is not the right fit for you right now — none of that changes anything about how we handle your information or whether you can reach out again later.
If you are still early in your research, that is fine too — you do not need finished architectural plans or a firm budget to request a match. A contractor's first conversation with you is often exactly where those details get worked out.
If you would rather understand the basics before requesting anything, our ADU basics guide is a reasonable starting point.
Homeowners request matches at every stage of planning, from a first idea to a finalized design looking for bids. There is no wrong stage to reach out.
Requesting a match takes a few minutes and does not require creating an account or providing payment information of any kind — just enough detail for us to route your request accurately.
What happens after you submit a request
- You tell us the basics. Property location, ADU type you are considering (detached, attached, garage conversion, or still deciding), and a rough timeline.
- We check network coverage for your area. Our network has the deepest bench in the Bay Area, San Diego, Sacramento, and Los Angeles, but we route requests statewide.
- A licensed contractor in the network reaches out. You are not obligated to hire anyone — this is an introduction, not a signed contract.
- You compare, ask questions, and decide. Use our contractor question checklist before committing to a bid.
