A referral network, explained plainly
California ADU Network does not pour foundations or pull permits. We built this network because homeowners kept telling us the hardest part of an ADU project was simply finding a contractor who (a) is properly licensed, (b) actually builds ADUs regularly rather than treating them as a side job, and (c) works in their part of California. Our job is to make that first connection faster and safer than an open web search.
Step by step
- Contractor vetting happens before you ever see a name. We confirm each network contractor holds an active, appropriate California contractor license for the work they take on. We do not invite unlicensed operators into the network.
- You submit one request. Through our Get Matched form or by calling (877) 300-2747, you share your location, project type, and rough scope.
- We match against network coverage. Our team checks which licensed contractors in the network actively serve your region and fit your project type — detached ADU, attached ADU, garage conversion, or JADU.
- A contractor contacts you directly. From that point, you are dealing directly with the contractor: site visit, bid, contract, permits, and construction are all between you and them.
- You stay in control. Getting matched is not a commitment. You can request a second match, compare multiple bids, or step away at any point.

What we are
A referral and lead-routing network. We introduce California homeowners to independent, licensed ADU contractors who serve their area, and we maintain buyer-education content so homeowners understand the process before that first call.
What we are not
We are not a licensed contractor and we do not perform construction, design, or permitting work ourselves. Contracts, licensing responsibility, and workmanship are between you and the contractor you choose to hire.
Why we work this way
Contractor licensing exists to protect homeowners, and it is a real, meaningful distinction that a referral network is not a licensed general contractor and should never present itself as one. We built California ADU Network to be transparent about that boundary rather than blur it, because the alternative — a lead-gen site that implies it is the builder — sets homeowners up for confusion about who is actually responsible for their project.
How this compares to searching on your own
You are always free to search for and hire an ADU contractor independently, without going through California ADU Network at all. What our network adds is the licensing pre-check and the regional matching step, which can save time compared to vetting every candidate yourself from scratch — but it is a convenience, not a requirement.
